What a great adventure! Leaving home early on Tuesday morning to head to school and not getting home again until late Wednesday afternoon is Not your typical school day…er, night…er, day!! Kinder to Year 6, one and all, joined in the fun ‘incursion' by participating in a sleepover at school.
After school on Tuesday James Quinn organised some fun and active sports games, which were followed by a paper aeroplane making activity under the guidance of Nathan Rose. To celebrate Drew A's 11thbirthday, after singing a joyful ¯Happy Birthday¯song and Drew blowing out his candles (no, he didn't tell us his wish J), everyone tucked into an indulgent piece of ice cream cake (with hidden Freddo frogs).
Making a tasty dinner called on the Master Chef skills all our students are developing beautifully, as they created their tastily overflowing tacos. There was plenty for seconds…and thirds…yes, and fourths!! Well, it was all happily healthy. Next came the changing into pyjamas (lots of giggling and pyjama parades!) and getting ready for the movie evening. Gathering in the cosy school library everyone joined in to watch the animation Frozen, snacking on the freshly popped popcorn.
During an interval each child introduced their favourite bedtime toy or animal, sharing information about them, such as their name, why they were called that, who gave it to them, how long they had owned it. Talk about some very cute and cuddly companions! Supper was a cup of nicely warmed milk Milo and a biscuit. Teeth cleaning, washing, then straight to sleep. (Yeah, right!!) Eventually…everyone settled down to a night sleeping in their school, the boys in the library and the girls in the classroom. Mrs Kearney ‘slept' in the library's computer room and Nathan slept in the staffroom while Mrs Fahy and Isabella (Mrs Fahy's 16 year daughter who was a volunteer helper for the incursion) ‘slept' in the classroom.
Some students think they are good at whispering quietly when they wake early! Waking to another lovely fresh morning all the students dressed, packed their gear then enjoyed an al fresco breakfast of cereal, bread and spreads, fruit, milk and fruit juice. Soon it was time for another day at school.
No one was late for school that day!
Finally, many thanks toMrs Kearney, Nathan, James and Isabella for all their support, without which, this fun, safe whole school activity could not have happened. Same time next year??
