Additional Learning Support
At our school, we believe every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow and feel included in all aspects of school life. We provide support for students with additional learning needs or disability, and this support can be put in place at any stage of schooling. A formal diagnosis is not required for a child to access support in a mainstream classroom.
Support for individual needs
Some students benefit from extra help to build confidence and achieve their best. We work closely with families to develop simple, practical support plans and adjustments that suit each child.
Support may include:
- teamwork between teachers, support staff and families
- support for students learning English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D)
- small group literacy and numeracy support
- extension opportunities for high potential and gifted students
- regular check-ins to review progress
Classroom adjustments
Adjustments may be made to help students access learning, such as:
- accessible learning spaces
- assistive technology
- adapted worksheets or instructions
- extra support or simplified tasks when needed
- different ways to show learning (e.g. speaking instead of writing)
Assessment adjustments may include extra time, breaks, or modified instructions.
We identify students who may need support through teacher observations, assessment data, and conversations with families. All support is planned together with families and reviewed regularly.
Learning and Support Team
Our Learning and Support Team helps ensure students receive the right support at the right time. The team works with teachers, families and support staff to:
- identify student needs
- plan and review support
- monitor progress
- connect with external services when needed
The team may include Learning and Support Teachers, School Learning Support Officers, counsellors or psychologists, EAL/D teachers, and other specialist staff.
